If you are in the start up phase of a business, or you are planning to start one up, then you need to really think about every expense you have and if you can cut it. The fact is, many businesses are doomed to failure before they even get started because the owner doesn’t understand the need to conserve capital. That is, he or she thinks the trappings of a successful business are more important than the business itself. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Especially if you are starting an online business, you don’t need to worry about anything fancy for an office. Think about it, if all your work is online then no one will ever see your great looking solid walnut desk anyway. So why not take the money you would spend on the desk and instead spend it on better content on your site or a more aggressive link profile? In the end, this is the sort of action that will make you money, not buying fancy curtains or file cabinets.
I first heard about this idea when I was reading about “kitchen table millionaires,” these are men and women who built million dollar businesses that they ran from their kitchen table. If that was good enough for these millionaires, then it is good enough for me to get my business off the ground.
I am planning to build a bullet proof business that will increase in sales every month. This will take a lot of capital that I don’t want to waste on frivolous expenses, and you shouldn’t do it either. Every penny you make needs to be reinvested into your business so that it can grow. That means you will have plenty of time for office furniture later on. Now you need to concentrate on increasing customers and increasing sales. That should be your only focus.
