How to customize your cubicle at work
Tired of sitting in a boring, gray cubicle? Become the envy of your co-workers by using this guide to spice up (or down) your cubicle.
Steps
- Empty one of the drawers in your desk. No matter what it is, it comes out. (If possible, remove the desk drawer.) Organize the contents into categories you can easily remember for the rest of your career (or at least until you can get promoted to an office job). If necessary, purchase dividers and organizers to keep your items separate in the drawer. Place the items neatly back in the drawer (and place the drawer back in the desk if applicable). Do this with all your drawers.
- Hang framed photographs of loved ones on your walls, or set them on your desk out of the way of your work space. A piece of artwork or another type of wall-hanging can be good, just don’t overdo it.
- Bring in a plant to set in the corner of your desk. A plant will make the space seem more alive, more friendly, and it will help purify the air in your workplace.
- Buy your own calendar with art or photography of a subject you’re interested in. Like golf? Music? Italy? Good, buy a calendar on that theme for yourself.
- Set your own desktop background on your computer. It can be a family photo, a picture from vacation, or something similar to what is on your calendar – a picturesque view of an Italian vineyard, an ocean beach at sunset, or a photogenic critter. The sky is the limit.
- Bring in your own coffee mug. No more drinking your morning Joe out of a travel mug or white foam cup. Choose a mug in one of your favorite colors, or one that has a funny saying, or just looks interesting. Keep it in your cubicle to use when you’re at work. Something as simple as that makes a difference. This is wikiHow’s guide and I like it, but I will add step number 7:
- Make sure you don’t get your ass fired because you are not allowed to do any of these things.
